The Ministry of Finance of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein

The Ministry of Finance headed by Minister, Rainer Wiegard, is responsible for the State budget, the tax offices, State participation in private sector companies, and administrative renewal. One of the key tasks of the Minister of Finance is to schedule the State budget and the financial plan, for the following four years. In addition, he is responsible for the income and outgoings of the Land: that is the total tax administration, borrowing, and management of debts of the Land. Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance has the supervision of subordinate authorities. For example, it manages the 17 tax offices within Schleswig-Holstein, including staff of about 4,100 employees, and the ‘Landesbesoldungsamt Schleswig-Holstein’ (Payroll Office of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein).

Additional tasks of the Ministry of Finance are the management of the State participations in private sector companies, and of GMSH (Gebäudemanagement Schleswig-Holstein - Building Management of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein), which is responsible for the official construction contracts of the Land and of the Federation in Schleswig-Holstein, and co-ordinates the housing of the offices of the State, as well as the management of the buildings. Finally, the GMSH is the central procurement organisation for the State Administration.
